T.E.A.M.S. – Lecture Series

TEAMS is a lifelong learning program offered to students 60 years of age and older.  TEAMS classes are non-credit.  There are no test, grades, or papers to write! The program will include talented instructors, college professors, and business leaders with categorical experience. The sheer joy of learning something new, and becoming more informed is the goal of T.E.A.M.S participants.

In order to receive a refund, or if you need to withdraw or transfer classes, you must submit your request by email to Tasheena Taylor at taylorta@grayson.edu or call our office, at least 7 days prior to the course start date.

Overview

LECTURE SERIES: 

The lecture series are still in the planning stages- Grayson College academic faculty are still awaiting finalized Fall course schedules.  We promise to have an engaging and educational line-up of topics and presenters this Fall.  Lectures will begin the week of September 9th and will not coincide with Trifecta or the field trips.

Ritual, Myth and Magic in Early Modern Europe with Dr. Chase Machen

Historian John Van Engen states, “the great mass of medieval folk lived in a ‘folklore’ culture best likened to that observed by anthropologists in Third World countries. The problem we will discuss is one pondered by John Van Engen, the dilemma of objective truth and religious perception in early medieval England. Was the world of spirituality one in which a Catholic Christianity reigned supreme or rather one in which an Indo-European mythology still held sway. The answer lies in a region of amalgamated and superimposed mythologies and scriptural beliefs.

Psychology is founded on scientific study and ethical standards, but there was a time when ethics were not monitored as heavily. Come learn about some of the most famous psychological experiments that would not pass today's ethical standards.

Ride with the Raiders with Rodney Hess, Denton ISD High School History Teacher and Living History Scholar

Vigilante justice and guerilla warfare were an accepted norm during the Civil War. Listen as Rodney Hess, dressed in period attire, offers a vivid retelling of guerilla fighters dubbed the  Bushwhackers and Jayhawkers. Mr. Hess will bring history to your doorstep with the Bushwhacker connection to Grayson County and the Great Hanging that took place in Cooke County. The presentation will include artifacts of the war and equipment used by these guerilla fighters.
