Overview

Introduction:

This course is designed for healthcare professionals whose responsibilities require proficiency in treating pediatric cardiac and and respiratory emergencies.   It is designed for all medical specialties which are required to have PALS training as a condition of hospital privileges, and/or employment.  You will be expected to demonstrate competence in pediatric and infant CPR as part of successful PALS Provider course completion. Prior to class students must complete online pre-course self-assessment. See below for details  (7 hrs)

  • Management of Respiratory Distress/Arrest
  • Witnessed arrest
  • Refractory VF/Pulseless VT
  • PEA
  • Asystole
  • Bradycardia
  • Tachycardia Stable and Unstable
  • Shock and Team Resuscitation Concept

Prerequisites:

Basic EKG knowledge and current BLS certification are required.

Location & Times:

  • 9am - 5pm in Center for Workplace Learning (CWL) Building unless otherwise noted

Materials:

AHA PALS books are available for purchase from the CWL office for $45.

Prior to Class Students MUST:

Complete the Pre-Course Self-Assessment (pre-test) found online at www.heart.org/eccstudent.  The access code for the website is found at the bottom of page ii of your PALS Provider Manual ("pals15").  Upon completion, print out your score sheet and bring it to class.  If you do not complete the pre-test, you will not be eligible to participate in the course.
